Most corporate events follow a run of show: arrivals, dinner, remarks from leadership, recognition or presentations, and then open social time. I’ll ask for your schedule early and work to it, so the music drops out when someone steps up to speak and picks back up when they’re done.

If you have an event planner, an office manager or a committee running the night, I’ll coordinate with whoever is holding the timeline. One clear contact on the night makes everything run more smoothly.

• Dinner background at a level people can talk over
• Walk-up music for presenters or recognitions, if you’d like it
• Speeches and remarks with the music cleared
• A dance set to finish, or a relaxed social mix if dancing isn’t the plan

At a work event, people want to catch up with colleagues they don’t see every day. Music that’s too loud early in the evening pushes them outside or into the hallway. I keep it in the background while people mingle and eat, and only bring it up when the room is ready.

Speeches are the other half of it. A microphone for speakers is part of my setup, and I can MC and handle the announcements if you’d like.

A mixed-age workplace needs a mixed playlist. I’ll ask about your group, the tone you’re after and anything that should stay off the list.

If your company has a theme, a song tied to a milestone or a few favourites from the staff, send them over and I’ll work them into the night.

A company event might be a team dinner in a private room, a party in a rented hall or a summer barbecue at a park shelter. Each space works differently for music and speeches, so I’ll ask about yours when you check your date.
